THE BENEFITS OF MASSAGE

Massage may help release chronic muscular tension and pain, improve circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and physical fatigue and stress, promote faster healing of injured muscular tissue, improve posture, and reduce blood pressure. Massage may also promote better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety and create an overall sense of well-being.

WHAT TO EXPECT
If you are a non-insurance first time client you will need to fill out a short questionnaire, it will let me know a little about you, your needs and what you expect from the massage. After we have discussed what is expected from the massage and I have answered all your questions then I well leave the room. You will then unclothe to what is comfortable for you and get under the top sheet. My first initial touch is laying of the hands on top of the sheet on your back, introducing my energy to yours. I expose only the part of the body I am working on. I prefer to use oil and lotion but powder may be used. Each massage is custom made to the individual. Depending on the type, time, insurance or non-insurance most massages include: the back, buttocks, legs, feet, arms, hands and neck. The face, head and belly may be requested, I specialize in therapeutic deep tissue and at any time if anything is uncomfortable Please let me know.

After the massage most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term ached and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity, which can last for days. Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during a massage, it is recommended you drink plenty of WATER following your massage.
I am an independent contractor which means I work with chiropractors not for them so NO you do not need to see a chiropractor if you do not want to.

Below are the different type of massages:

DEEP TISSUE; designed to reach the deep portions of thick muscles, specifically the individual muscle fibers. Using deep muscle compression and friction along the grain of the muscle, its purpose is to unstick the fibers of the muscles and release both toxins and deeply held patterns of tension. I go to the pressure of the individual, not on any pain area for long without releasing and sometimes use forearm and elbows.

SWEDISH; is what most people think of when they think of a massage. Swedish Massage uses a system of long gliding strokes, kneading (the gentle pulling muscle form bone), friction (short strokes that cause heat in a small area), percussive (the hitting type strokes, cupped hand, rolled hand, side of hand), and shaking motions or vibration techniques on the more superficial layers of muscles. The aim of a Swedish massage is to relax the tissues of the body, relieve stress and improve circulation.

MANUAL LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE: used to decrease edema (Tissue fluid). This massage is  very slow using light rhythmic strokes along path of the lymphatic vessels to return tissue fluid to the heart.
 Swedish Massage

ACUPRESSURE: uses deep finger pressure applied at certain points located along a system of energy channels within the body called meridians. Because these points directly relate to organs and glands of the body, constrictions in the flow of energy at these points causes disease and discomfort. Acupressure stimulates these points to remove blockages, to increase the energy flow, to reduce stress, and to promote health and harmony in the body. A stationary point I hold for a certain amount of time with three levels superficial, deep and deepr or until I feel a release.

TRIGGER POINT: is used for the relief and control of myofascial pain and dysfunction.  Treatment consists of trigger point compression, myomassage, and passive stretching. Pinching, pulling and rolling of area may be used along with elbow.

SPORTS: used to drain away fatigue, relieve swelling, reduce muscle tension, promote flexibility and to prevent injuries. Depending on the needs, a variety of techniques are used including, deep tissue, Swedish, trigger point and muscle energy, release and testing.

MUSCLE ENERGY, RELEASE, TESTING : the client uses a percent of his/her strength to resist the actions of the therapist. He or She then relaxes the muscle to allow the therapist to stretch the muscle.  This is usually done three consecutive times, followed by the client contracting the antagonist (opposite muscle). Recommendations are made for at home exercises or rehab, diet or other nutritional needs, stress reduction or mediation, spiritual awareness or balance.

REFLEXOLOGY: is an acupressure type technique performed on the hands and feet and is based on the ancient Oriental theory that meridian lines or pathways carry energy throughout the body. Because each zone or part of the body has a corresponding reflex point on the feet, stimulating that reflex point causes stimulation in the natural energy of the related organ. Crystalline-type deposits and/or tenderness indicate a dysfunction, and pressure is applied to clear out congestion and restore normal functioning and health. Those afraid of being tickled need not fear. The way I relax the whole body before touching the feet and the method of holding the feet desensitize the tickle response.
POLARITY: involves balancing the positive and negative forces in the body (yin and yang) by holding various points on the body and passing energy through these points.
ENERGY WORK: is the rhythm rotation of spiritual or psychic energy, passed thru me usually from the universe, bringing balance to the client.
THERAPEUTIC TOUCH; is a laying-on-of-hands technique that doesn’t actually touch the body but touches the energy field around it. Is based on the theory that the human energy field extends beyond the skin and is abundant and flows in balanced patterns in health but is depleted and/or unbalanced in illness or injury. Practitioners restore health by sensing and adjusting such fields to restore health and promote well-being.
SHIATSU: Japanese form of acupressure.  Uses rhythmic pressure from 3 to 10 seconds on specific points along the body’s meridians by using the fingers, hands, elbows, knees, and sometimes feet to unblock and stimulate the flow of energy. A session my also include gentle stretching and range-of-motions manipulations. Shiatsu is done with clothes on and on a mat on the floor. No lotion or oil is used.
LOMI LOMI:  a Hawaiian type of massage that is done with a LOT of oil.  I use mostly my forearms to glide over the body with long flowing, repeated slow strokes.

CHAIR; This form of massage is performed with the client sitting in a massage chair.  The client is fully clothed and massage techniques that don’t require massage oil or lotion are used. This type of massage is less effective than a traditional massage, but is very convenient in the workplace to relieve stress and increase the productivity of employees, as well as their health.
